Back Pain & Scans

Back pain is the most common condition that i treat as a Physiotherapist, nearly all of us will get back pain at some point. The first thing i do with back pain patients is check that they don’t have any signs of serious pathology, or ‘red flags’. Serious pathology is actually really rare and the vast majority of back pain, including back and leg pain, or ‘sciatica’, gets better with conservative treatment including Physiotherapy.

If you’re wondering about scans watch this video which sums things up really nicely. Towards the end there is a list of the people who do need MRI’s. For most people the important thing to remember is that scans do not show pain, they simply show your ‘wrinkles on the inside’
