Have You Ever Experienced Shoulder Pain?

It’s the kind of catching or sharp pain that stops you in your tracks. You might be struggling with reaching overhead, lifting weights in the gym or swimming . It niggles when you try to sleep at night and can even keep you awake. It leaves you feeling frustrated, wondering when it’s finally going to improve.

If that sounds like you, Cornwall Physio is here to help:

Shoulder pain is one of the most common problems we treat at Cornwall Physio. Many people come to us feeling frustrated because they don't understand WHY their Shoulder is still sore. Some think their Shoulder pain is just a part of 'getting old', or inevitable if you're a swimmer or go to the gym. They believe Shoulder problems come and go. Hoping it'll magically disappear one day… (but it often ends up staying longer - sometimes getting progressively worse). In fact shoulder problems are notorious for outstaying their welcome.

The gradual onset of Shoulder pain can be confusing. For you it might have been something you noticed in bed, as it became painful to lie on that side. Often, people with sore Shoulders come for Physio after they've had symptoms for months or even years. Usually, they've unintentionally worsened the problem. Without the right treatment, Shoulder pain tends to stick around, sometimes for a LONG time.

Shoulder pain doesn't usually go away 'by accident'. It also doesn't significantly go away with rest. There are lots of everyday things that people try to help their sore shoulders that don't work and prolong the problem.

When it comes to living with Shoulder Pain, everybody we see wants to know.

“Why is This Happening to Me?”...

or

“Why Am I Still Suffering With Shoulder Pain After Putting Up With It For Months (Maybe More)?”

Here’s the most crucial thing…

Most people get stuck trying to decide what to do next. Sometimes, putting off treatment for days, weeks, months or even years. But we guarantee your Shoulder pain won’t get better this way.

Why Else Does Shoulder PAIN Last Longer Than It Should?

Well, it’s easy to get confused because there are lots of unqualified people out there who dispense advice - but not all of it is credible when it comes to diagnosing shoulder problems. Many people we see have self-diagnosed from the internet or just had a quick visit to the GP.

Maybe you think it was caused by something you did – like repetitive strain from playing football or wearing high-heeled shoes. But the cause could be something different altogether, relating to how you move.

Another crucial issue with solving ‘shoulder’ pain, is that a high number of people that come to us with shoulder pain do not actually have a problem with their shoulder joint at all!! Shoulder and NECK problems often get muddled together as one can cause the other and a problem in your neck can actually result in pain being felt in the area of the shoulder joint.

Some of the MOST PAINFUL ‘shoulder’ problems we see actually require treatment to the neck and without our input to properly diagnose the problem, people end up trying self-help treatments at home, which are actually for the WRONG PROBLEM!

If you're not an expert, – Shoulder pain can be confusing. This confusion is why many gym-goers, athletes, active grandparents and swimmers accept it as 'part of life' and put off having treatment for so long that the pain becomes difficult to ignore.

If you’ve lived with Shoulder pain for a long time - we would love to help you. The best way to get started is to book a call to talk to one of our Physiotherapists. And, don’t worry, if you’ve tried lots of things already, we view this as a good thing because we’re even closer to finding the all-important root cause.
